Site 2 1989
Plot Synopsis
After witnessing the deaths of his family members under Pol Pot's cruel regime, a fifteen year-old RithyPanh fled Cambodia in 1979. He found refuge at the Mairut camp on the Thai-Cambodian border, remaining until 1980 before leaving for France. Ten years later, camera in hand, Panh returned to Mairut to shoot his first documentary Site 2, chronicling the daily lives of refugees haunted by their horrific past, fearful of their uncertain future, and hoping for a return to their home of Cambodia. Panh's debut earned acclaim internationally and marked him as an emerging and authentic voice of contemporary Cambodia.
